Baghdad: The Joint Operations Command issued a clarification regarding the limited exposure of some government systems to cyber attacks.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Command stated in a statement: “Some media outlets and social media platforms circulated news that included inaccurate information about government systems being exposed to cyber attacks. In this context, the National Cybersecurity Center confirmed that technical follow-up revealed that the incident was limited to limited systems belonging to a number of institutions, without any impact on basic services provided to citizens. No disruption or interruption of the operation of vital or service systems was recorded.”
The statement explained that the center, in coordination with the relevant technical authorities, is closely monitoring these cyberattacks, and the necessary technical measures have been taken to ensure the situation is contained and any future repercussions are prevented.
The leadership called on the media and social media users to exercise accuracy, not to exaggerate such incidents, and to rely on official statements issued by the relevant authorities to avoid disseminating information that could confuse public opinion.
He continued: “The competent security authorities confirm that any attempts to hack or target government systems, or to spread rumors and exaggerations, will be met with strict legal action, and anyone proven to be involved in such acts will be prosecuted, as they constitute cybercrimes that threaten the national interest.”
The National Cybersecurity Center confirmed that the technical situation is under full control, and that work is ongoing to enhance the protection of the national cyberspace, ensuring the continuity of services and reassurance for citizens.
