Baghdad: Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, announced plans to expand the electricity interconnection with Iraq to 200 megawatts. This development is seen as a strategic move towards enhancing energy exchange and promoting a shift to clean energy sources.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Kharabsheh made this announcement at the Iraq Investment Forum, highlighting that Jordan currently supplies Iraq with around 40 megawatts of electricity. The minister outlined future plans to increase this capacity to 200 megawatts, emphasizing the mutual benefits both nations could enjoy from differences in production costs.

The minister further explained that the ultimate objective is to achieve synchronous interconnection, which would allow the exchange of energy at any given time. He pointed out the potential for the region to evolve into a hub for exporting green energy to Europe. This can be achieved through strategic initiatives such as green hydrogen production and integration with the India-Gulf-Europe economic corridor.
