Baghdad: The Supreme Judicial Council emphasized the necessity of rigorously implementing the Accountability and Justice Commission Law to prevent individuals associated with the defunct Ba’ath Party from entering Parliament.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Council detailed that a meeting was hosted by the Supreme Judicial Council, attended by prominent judicial figures including Judge Faiq Zidane, President of the Supreme Judicial Council, and Judge Kazim Abbas, Vice Presidents of the Federal Court of Cassation. Other attendees included Judge Hassan Fuad, Head of the Judicial Body for Appeals against Decisions of the Accountability and Justice Commission, Bassem Al-Badri, President of the Supreme National Commission for Accountability and Justice, and several Commission members.

The statement highlighted that the meeting focused on discussing the procedures of the Accountability and Justice Commission concerning the upcoming parliamentary elections. Attendees concurred on the importance of strictly enforcing the Accountability and Justice Commission Law to prevent those linked to the defunct Ba’ath Party from entering Parliament. Furthermore, they agreed that the Commission’s procedures must be transparent and should adhere strictly to the legal framework, ensuring they are not used for any unintended purposes.
