Najaf: The Najaf Investigation Court has announced the arrest of a suspect who was impersonating an employee of the Office of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Central Anti-Corruption Committee at the Prime Minister’s Office. The individual was apprehended with the alleged intent to extort the Director of the Real Estate Registry in the Najaf Governorate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the presiding judge revealed that the suspect contacted the Director of the Real Estate Registry by phone, falsely claiming to be in a meeting with the President of the Supreme Judicial Council to facilitate the signing of documents. The suspect further alleged that the Director’s name appeared on arrest warrant lists and offered to have these warrants canceled in exchange for money. The judge also noted that the suspect had previously extorted the Director of Najaf International Airport and the Director of Electricity Distribution in the governorate.

The court has since taken the necessary legal measures, assembling evidence that led to the suspect’s arrest. His statement has been recorded judicially, and preparations are underway to refer him to the competent court for trial in accordance with the law.
