Baghdad: The Karbala Police Command’s Anti-Crime Department has successfully arrested an international gang that was involved in robbery and impersonating security personnel.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the police statement highlighted that the Karbala Anti-Crime Department dismantled a dangerous international gang operating across several Iraqi provinces. This success follows intensive intelligence and technical efforts aimed at curbing the gang’s activities.

The investigation revealed that the gang rented vehicles in Baghdad using forged documents. They impersonated security personnel and specifically targeted foreigners of various nationalities in Iraq. The gang exploited expired residency permits to extort money and steal belongings from their victims.

After the gang executed two robberies in Karbala, the Anti-Crime Department intensified its efforts by gathering and cross-referencing information. This led to the identification and tracking of the gang members, culminating in their arrest.

During the investigation, the accused confessed to committing multiple robberies and thefts in various Iraqi provinces. Legal measures have been taken against them, and they have been referred to the judiciary to face justice according to the law.
