Kirkuk: The Kirkuk Security and Defense Committee has made an urgent appeal to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to address the growing proliferation of weapons in the Altun Kupri district. Ahmed Ramzi, head of the Security and Defense Committee in the Kirkuk Provincial Council, emphasized the necessity for immediate intervention and the formation of a ministerial security committee comprising members from the Ministries of Defense and Interior to evaluate the district’s security situation directly.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ramzi highlighted the recurrence of security incidents in the area as a significant concern. The most recent events include random gunfire following a dispute at a gas station and an incident involving the death of a member of the Popular Mobilization Forces and the injury of another. These incidents reflect a dangerous trend that requires urgent attention.

Ramzi stressed that the uncontrolled spread of weapons poses a severe threat to civil peace, warning that such a situation will not be tolerated or allowed to extend to other regions within the Kirkuk Governorate. He also pointed out the strategic importance of the Altun Kupri district, which demands enhanced security measures and a reevaluation of the existing security strategies.

The statement underscored that citizen safety is a priority and that the state should be the sole authority managing weapons. Ramzi called for a genuine resolution to prevent the escalation of the problem, emphasizing the need for proactive and decisive actions to safeguard residents and avert future incidents.
