Konya: Konyaspor inflicted a second defeat on Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig, beating them 1-0 on Saturday evening at the Konya Stadium, in the fifth round of the competition.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Konyaspor secured their first league victory of the season after four consecutive losses, bringing their points tally to 3 and moving them up to 16th place, leaving the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, Trabzonspor continued their inconsistent form, suffering their second loss in their last three matches, leaving them with 7 points and dropping to sixth place.

The home side established an early advantage and opened the scoring after just two minutes through Hungarian Raimond Toth, who fired a well-placed shot from inside the penalty area, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack that culminated in a cross from Portuguese Diogo Gon§alves. Konyaspor nearly doubled their lead two minutes later when Gon§alves broke down the right flank and sent in a cross that deflected off Serbian defender Stefan Savic and into the penalty area, only to rebound off the left post.

The home side squandered several more chances to extend their advantage, while Trabzonspor’s Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andr© Onana, was in fine form, making two consecutive saves from Deniz Turu§ to keep his team in the game. As the half progressed, Trabzonspor began to find their footing and create some opportunities, the best of which was a header from Egyptian Mohamed Salah in the 40th minute, which went just wide after a cross from Aral Simsir. Salah had another chance in the 45th minute when he received a pass inside the penalty area from Vagner Pena, but he fired his shot over the bar, leaving the score 1-0 to Konyaspor at halftime.

In the second half, Brazilian Fabinho almost equalized for Trabzonspor in the 55th minute, rising to meet a corner kick with a header that rebounded off the post, before Aral Simsir’s shot went over the bar. Trabzonspor continued to press for an equalizer, while Konyaspor relied on a compact defense and counter-attacks to maintain their lead until the final whistle.
