Moscow: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Friday that a new round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will be held next week as part of ongoing efforts to end the conflict between the two countries, which has been ongoing since February 2022.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Peskov explained at a press conference that an agreement has been reached to hold the negotiations next week, noting that details regarding the location and dates will be announced later. He added that the meeting will seek to explore ways to make progress on the outstanding issues between the two sides.
This round of negotiations comes amid escalating tensions on the ground, at a time when countries and international bodies are intensifying their efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis. It is estimated that the upcoming round of talks may address fundamental issues related to borders, armaments, and the impact of the conflict on regional security.
According to Russian and Ukrainian officials, the upcoming meetings will focus on discussing the implementation of the ceasefire and alleviating the suffering of civilians in conflict zones, in an attempt to revitalize the negotiation process, which has stalled in recent months due to deep disagreements between the two sides regarding the terms of a political solution.
This round of talks will represent a new test of the international mediators’ ability to bring the two sides to the negotiating table, at a time when the humanitarian and economic repercussions of the conflict continue to worsen.
