Baghdad: The Kurdistan Region Presidency confirmed on Sunday that no force will remain outside the framework of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs as of tomorrow, Monday.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Kurdistan Region Presidency spokesperson Dilshad Shahab stated that a ceremony will be held to announce the completion of the process of unifying the Peshmerga forces. The event will take place under the patronage of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and will be attended by his deputies, the Region’s Prime Minister and his deputy, the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, as well as other government and party officials involved in the unification process.

Shahab emphasized that following September 21, no Peshmerga force will remain outside the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs’ framework. This marks the culmination of a lengthy effort to consolidate the forces under the ministry’s umbrella. The unification process, which began in 2016, encountered significant challenges, primarily due to political differences. However, the combined efforts of the President of the Kurdistan Region, along with support from coalition forces, have been instrumental in overcoming these challenges.

The spokesperson highlighted that the announcement of the unification coincides with the fourth anniversary of the memorandum of understanding between the US Department of Defense and the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs. This agreement, endorsed by the President of the Kurdistan Region, aimed to unify the Peshmerga forces and provide necessary support and assistance.

Shahab confirmed the successful completion of the unification process, crediting Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani’s significant role in achieving this outcome. The official announcement of the completion is scheduled for tomorrow.
