Erbil: The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, emphasized the importance of implementing the Sinjar Agreement to ensure the return of displaced Yazidis to their homes. This statement was made in light of the twelfth anniversary of the Yazidi genocide.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Barzani expressed deep sorrow as he commemorated the tragic events that befell the Yazidi community. He highlighted the ongoing plight faced by the Yazidis, who continue to suffer due to political disagreements and the presence of unauthorized armed groups in the region.

Barzani called on the federal government to take action by restoring security and rebuilding Sinjar. He stressed the need to implement the agreement aimed at stabilizing and normalizing the situation in cooperation with the Kurdistan Regional Government. Barzani also suggested transforming Sinjar into a governorate and removing illegal forces to facilitate the return of the displaced Yazidis.

In his statement, Barzani reassured the Yazidi community of continued efforts to rescue kidnapped individuals and uncover their fate. He vowed to persist in international advocacy until ISIS's crimes against the Yazidis are globally recognized as genocide.

Barzani extended gratitude to the people of Dohuk and Badinan for their hospitality towards Yazidi refugees during their time of need. He also thanked countries that have acknowledged the genocide and provided assistance to the Yazidis.
