Large-Scale Campaign to Address Power Grid Encroachments in Al-Zubair District

Basra: A large-scale campaign to remove encroachments on the electrical grid in the Al-Zubair district of Basra has been launched by the Zubair Electricity Department. These encroachments include unauthorized double connections to power lines, tampering with transformers, and laying of lines without official permits in both industrial and commercial sectors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, District Commissioner Engineer Abbas Maher Al-Saidi, during his visit to the Zubair Electricity Department, directed the initiation of this comprehensive campaign. The campaign aims to alleviate the burden on the electrical grid, which has been experiencing increased loads, leading to frequent damage to transformers, lines, and cables. These issues have become a significant concern for the district.

The statement from the Zubair District Commissioner’s office highlighted that these encroachments have a direct impact on the electricity supply to citizens, affecting the continuity of service. Personnel from the Zubair Electricity Department have already begun removing these encroachments, focusing particularly on areas within the district that have been experiencing power outages.

The campaign is set to continue until its goals are met, with a focus on reducing the encroachments that affect the stability and reliability of the electrical grid.
