Largest Winged Bull Unearthed in Mosul at King Esarhaddon’s Palace

Mosul: Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, announced the discovery of the largest winged bull, measuring approximately 6 meters in height, inside the royal hall of King Esarhaddon’s palace behind the Prophet Yunus Mosque in Mosul.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Badrani stated that the 6-meter-tall artifact is of great archaeological and historical value. Excavation work has revealed the presence of other, smaller copies of the winged bull and has also led to the determination of the throne hall’s area, which holds significant importance in the history of the Assyrian state.

Al-Badrani further explained that the site of the royal palace includes adjacent halls leading to the throne hall. Additionally, there are two copies of the winged bull situated at each of the palace gates, underscoring the historical significance of the site.
