Baghdad: Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri offered his condolences on Thursday to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani for the victims of the Kut fire.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by Berri's office stated that "Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri offered his condolences to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and his counterpart, Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, in two phone calls for the victims of the Kut fire in Wasit Governorate, which claimed the lives of dozens of civilians, including martyrs and wounded."

The condolences addressed to the Prime Minister read, "With feelings of sadness and sympathy, we received the news of the painful tragedy that struck Iraq as a result of the horrific fire that occurred in the city of Kut in Wasit Governorate, which left dozens of victims, including martyrs and wounded."

He added, "On behalf of the Lebanese people, on my own behalf, and on behalf of the Parliament, I share with you, the brotherly Iraqi people, and the families of the victims our deepest condolences. We ask Almighty God to bestow His mercy upon the martyrs, to inspire you and their families with great patience and solace, to grant the wounded a speedy recovery, and to grant Iraq continued security, safety, and stability."

The statement continued, "The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament sent a similar cable of condolences to his counterpart, the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani."
