Lebanese Prime Minister: US Envoy’s Proposal Includes Israeli Withdrawal and Hostilities Cessation

Beirut: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed on Monday that the US envoy presented a paper containing a set of ideas for implementing the arrangements for the cessation of hostilities, which include the Israeli withdrawal and the cessation of hostilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Salam stated in press statements that “the US envoy’s paper includes the Israeli withdrawal and the cessation of hostilities,” emphasizing that a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and a complete cessation of hostilities are inevitable.

Salam elaborated that the US envoy’s proposal outlined mechanisms for implementing the cessation of hostilities agreement. In response, Lebanon has presented its own set of ideas to the US envoy to facilitate the implementation of this agreement.

The Prime Minister further highlighted discussions on coordinated steps and expressed a request for the revival of the coordination committee for the cessation of hostilities and the implementation of Resolution 1701. He underscored that “Hezbollah is an integral part of the Lebanese state.”

Salam also mentioned that there is a consensus among the Lebanese, since the Taif Agreement, on the necessity of confining weapons and extending state authority over its territory.
