Leeds: Leeds United, a Premier League club, announced the signing of goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City on a five-year contract for a club-record fee, the exact amount of which was not disclosed. British media reported that the deal is worth approximately £40 million (around $54 million) plus bonuses, making the 23-year-old the most expensive British goalkeeper in history.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trafford, who was included in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for this year's World Cup, made 17 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions last season. Trafford graduated from Manchester City's youth academy and gained experience during loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers before joining Burnley on a permanent deal in 2023.

He returned to Manchester City in July of last year but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, with Gianluigi Donnarumma becoming Pep Guardiola's first-choice goalkeeper. The England international is Daniel Farke's third permanent signing this summer, following Harry Wilson and Tarik Mahremovic.

Leeds, who finished 14th in the Premier League last season, begin their new campaign against Nottingham Forest on August 22.
