Erbil: During a gathering with tribal sheikhs, Masoud Barzani emphasized that political differences should not translate into divisions among the country’s peoples and components.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), conveyed his message while meeting with a delegation of princes, chiefs, sheikhs, and tribal dignitaries from Iraq’s southern and central governorates at the Salah al-Din resort. The meeting underscored the importance of unity and coexistence despite political challenges.

The delegation expressed their gratitude towards President Barzani, acknowledging his efforts in fostering stability and promoting the values of coexistence, brotherhood, and solidarity. They also appreciated the people of Kurdistan for providing support and shelter to displaced persons from various Iraqi regions during the war on terrorism.

The visiting leaders commended the Kurdistan Region’s stability and progress, noting its resilience in the face of obstacles and its continued path toward development and prosperity. They voiced their support for the legitimate demands of the Kurdish people, conveying messages of solidarity and appreciation.

Barzani reflected on the history of Iraq’s founding and the hardships faced by the Kurdish people under successive Iraqi governments. He clarified that the differences between the Kurdish people and government regimes do not equate to disputes with Iraq’s peoples and components, stressing that misguided government policies cannot undermine inter-community relations.

Barzani expressed hope for reconstruction and prosperity across Iraq and emphasized the importance of protecting and preserving citizens’ dignity in all regions. He highlighted ongoing differences between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal Iraqi government, asserting that citizens’ livelihoods should not be politicized or used as a tool against the Kurdish people.

He concluded by advocating for the successful governance of Iraq through adherence to the constitution and the principles of balance, consensus, and partnership.
