Mass death of fisheries in the marshes of Dhi Qar

Baghdad Al-Jabayish Tourism and Environment Organization in Dhi Qar revealed that fisheries were destroyed due to the drying up of the marshes and the salinity of the water in Suq Al-Shuyoukh district.

The Director of the Organization, Raad Al-Asadi, told Nasiriyah News Network: “The Um Al-Wada’ marsh in Suq Al-Shuyoukh district, south of Nasiriyah, witnessed a mass death of fish due to the drought of the marsh and water pollution, in addition to the high salinity of the water and high temperatures.”

He added, “The salinity rates have become very high in the marshes, and drought has controlled large areas of them. A disaster has been witnessed by the death of the entire fish wealth in the Um Al-Wada’ marsh in Suq Al-Shuyoukh district and other marshes of the governorate.”

Al-Asadi called on the authorities concerned with the water file to provide a water quota and restore water to the marshes of Dhi Qar Governorate, because more than 50,000 people were affected by the drying of the marshes of the governorate.
