Lattakia: Large fires broke out on Friday in several areas of the Lattakia countryside, including the forests of Al-Atira, Al-Rihaniya, Shalaf, and Zanf. The fires occurred amid difficult natural and field conditions that hampered extinguishing efforts.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management stated in a statement that firefighting teams face significant challenges, most notably the rugged mountainous terrain, the absence of fire lines and roads within forests, the remoteness of water sources, and the presence of war remnants in some locations.
The Ministry confirmed that firefighting operations continue with the support of teams from several governorates amid high temperatures and active winds, which have contributed to the expansion of the fires and their rapid spread.
These fires come days after more than 15 fires were extinguished in the Latakia and Tartous countrysides, the most prominent of which was in the Wadi Basour area of the Kansaba district.
