Massive Narcotics Crackdown in Iraq: 98 Kilograms Seized Across Five Governorates


BAGHDAD: The General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs of the Ministry of Interior announced today a significant narcotics seizure, totaling 98 kilograms, across five governorates in Iraq. The operation also led to the arrest of multiple drug dealers in Anbar, Salah al-Din, Basra, Maysan, and Nineveh.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry detailed that the operation was carried out under the direct orders of the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir al-Shammari, and supervised by the Director General, Major General Ahmed al-Zarkani. In Anbar and Salah al-Din, authorities seized 71 kilograms of Captagon and Tramadol, and in Basra, Maysan, and Nineveh, an additional 27 kilograms of crystal narcotics were confiscated.

The Ministry’s statement emphasized the coordinated efforts and the importance of intelligence in tackling drug trafficking within the region. This operation highlights the ongoing commitment of Iraqi security forces to combat narcotics and their distribution networks across the country
