Maysan: The Maysan Criminal Court has handed down a life sentence to an individual convicted of drug trafficking. The convict was apprehended with 914 grams of opium, which he intended to sell to users.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the life sentence was issued under Article 27/First of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017. The Supreme Judicial Council released a statement confirming the basis for the conviction and the subsequent sentencing.
