Baghdad: Maysan Governorate Police Command announced today the discovery of the murder of a five-month-old infant in Qalaat Saleh district, south of the governorate, after receiving a report of his kidnapping via the hotline (911).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the command stated in a statement that a team from the South Maysan Crime Control Department immediately began an investigation, and the child was found inside a water tank on the roof of the house, breathing his last breaths, before later passing away.

The statement added that investigations revealed that the child’s uncle’s wife was the one who kidnapped him and threw him in the tank, out of revenge, believing that the child’s mother had previously caused her son’s death.

The accused was arrested after obtaining judicial approvals, and her initial and judicial confessions were recorded. The evidence revealed that the child’s kidnapping event was consistent with what she had stated.
