Baghdad: The Media and Communications Commission has taken decisive action to shut down unlicensed television broadcasting systems, issuing a stern warning to citizens against subscribing to unauthorized services.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, technical teams from the Commission, in collaboration with judicial and security authorities, have conducted a series of raids targeting encrypted television systems operating without proper licenses. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to eradicate illegal broadcasting activities and ensure compliance with the law.
The Commission clarified that these enforcement measures are authorized under Legislative Order No. (65) of 2004. The campaign will persist until all unlicensed systems are dismantled, and those accountable will be prosecuted by the appropriate judicial bodies.
The Commission also issued a warning to individuals and organizations against engaging with terrestrial broadcasting services that utilize the Ku-band system without a license. Such services contravene existing legislation, and subscribers risk financial loss without legal recourse.
Subscribers are urged to choose licensed services and report any unlicensed activities to support legal enforcement, protect user rights, and maintain the integrity of Iraq’s media and communications infrastructure.
