Baghdad: Iraq is making significant strides in tax reform, as affirmed by Finance Minister Taif Sami. She emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing the tax system according to international benchmarks and broadening revenue streams.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Sami spoke at the Tax Conference for Economic Development and Investment Promotion, highlighting the state’s commitment to modernizing the tax framework. This initiative is being undertaken under the direct guidance of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and the Ministry of Finance to reinforce non-oil income.

Sami detailed the ministry’s ongoing implementation of the government program, which includes a series of reforms. These reforms involve updating tax laws and regulations, refining tax accounting methods, securing state rights, and fostering social justice.

She also noted that the National Reform Plan (2025-2030) is designed to boost domestic revenues with support from the European Union and German organizations. The plan aims to reassess tax thresholds, expand electronic payment and collection methods, bolster financial inclusion, and tackle obstacles that impede the efficient execution of tax policies, all in accordance with judicial oversight and sound financial management practices.
