Baghdad: Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani discussed with the French Ambassador to Iraq completing procedures for signing a memorandum of understanding in the judicial and legal fields between the two countries. A statement by the Ministry of Justice stated that Minister Shawani received the French Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Dorrell, and his accompanying delegation at the Ministry’s headquarters. This meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen judicial and legal relations between Iraq and France.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, Minister Shawani expressed Iraq’s eagerness to finalize the procedures for signing a memorandum of understanding. This agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of convicts and expertise between the two countries. The discussions highlighted the mutual commitment to enhancing the judicial cooperation between Iraq and France.

In response, French Ambassador Dorrell extended his gratitude to Minister Shawani for the warm reception and acknowledged the Ministry of Justice’s efforts in advancing its correctional system. He specifically praised the improvements in prison conditions and the care provided to inmates, including French prisoners in Iraqi correctional institutions. The Ambassador affirmed France’s commitment to supporting legal cooperation with Iraq, emphasizing that these efforts are in line with the shared interests of both nations.
