Amman: The expanded Arab and Islamic ministerial meeting held in Amman on Wednesday condemned Israeli measures aimed at altering the Arab and Islamic identity of Jerusalem. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the final statement issued by the meeting expressed strong rejection and condemnation of Israeli occupation measures that seek to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque or change the established historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The statement highlighted that the entire Al-Aqsa Mosque, encompassing 144 dunams, is a place of worship solely for Muslims, managed by the Jordanian Waqf. It further emphasized that East Jerusalem is recognized as the capital of the Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, and reiterated support for the historical Hashemite custodianship of holy sites. The meeting underscored backing the resilience of Jerusalemites and the role of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds (Jerusalem Fund), cautioning that Israeli practices could ignite a religious conflict, posing a threat to international peace and security.

The meeting called upon the international community and the Security Council to intervene and halt Israeli violations. It also urged the launch of a media and institutional mechanism to document these violations. Additionally, there was a call for a joint Arab-Islamic ministerial meeting to be convened in New York next September.
