Baghdad: Head of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage at the Ministry of Culture, Ali Obeid Shalgam, announced the launch of the third phase of the “Reviving the Spirit of Mosul” initiative, which includes the implementation of restoration and rehabilitation work for a number of important historical sites, including Barudkhana, the Citadel Bathhouse, and Bashtabiya Castle.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a statement that this announcement came during a meeting with the UNESCO Ambassador and Director of its Office in Iraq. The meeting focused on discussing ways to enhance joint cooperation and support projects aimed at maintaining and restoring archaeological sites. The meeting was attended by Nineveh Antiquities and Heritage Inspector Ruwaid Muwaffaq.
The discussion during the meeting highlighted an action plan that encompasses implementation phases and follow-up mechanisms. It also emphasized the exchange of technical expertise to ensure the preservation of Iraq’s cultural and civilizational heritage.
