Baghdad: The Ministry of Education and the National Water and Environmental Sanitation Team are actively reviewing the condition of school buildings with a focus on water and sanitation services. This initiative was discussed during a meeting that included various stakeholders from both government sectors and international organizations.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Education, through its General Directorate of Physical Education and School Activities, addressed the current challenges and requirements for improving water and sanitation services in educational institutions. This discussion was held under the guidance of Minister of Education Abdul Karim Abtan al-Jubouri, emphasizing the need for coordination among government agencies and international bodies involved in the National Water and Environmental Sanitation Team.
The Ministry’s press release highlighted that the discussions focused on the existing state of health services in schools. It explored the challenges in providing these services and considered preventative measures to minimize pollution and environmental risks. The meeting served as a platform for representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Water Resources, Environment, Agriculture, and Transport, along with the Baghdad Municipality and the General Directorate of Water and Sewerage, to collaborate with international representatives from UNICEF, the French Development Agency, and the Daryas organization.
