Ministry of Environment and Culture Hosts Seminar on War Munitions Awareness

Baghdad: The Ministry of Environment and Culture is organizing an awareness seminar on the dangers of war munitions and how to protect against them. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Media Department of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, under the supervision of the Authority’s Chairman, Ali Obeid Shalgham, collaborated with the Ministry of Environment’s Mine Affairs Department to host the seminar titled “The Dangers of War Munitions.” The event aimed to educate attendees about the risks associated with mines, projectiles, and unexploded ordnance, as well as strategies for prevention and safe handling.

Ahmed Falah Saheb and Mamdouh Adnan Alwan from the Ministry of Environment led the seminar, discussing the most common types of mines, projectiles, and munitions. They elaborated on the dangers these pose and outlined necessary preventative measures for dealing with such objects or remnants of war. The speakers stressed the importance of not approaching or touching these items and the need to report them to relevant authorities.

Ahmed Al-Mukhtar, Director of the Media Department, highlighted that the seminar is part of a broader awareness program adopted by the Authority. This initiative, in cooperation with various institutions and bodies, aims to promote a culture of prevention and increase awareness among Authority staff, especially those working at archaeological and heritage sites who may encounter various risks in their fieldwork. He noted that such cooperation is vital for the Authority’s awareness program, which organizes seminars, lectures, and educational events to protect staff and archaeological sites and to establish safety principles and risk awareness.
