Baghdad: The Central Region Department for Environmental Protection and Improvement at the Ministry of Environment convened to deliberate the completion of essential technical and environmental prerequisites for granting environmental approval to a waste-to-electricity initiative in Nahrawan. The project aims to ensure compliance with established environmental regulations and standards.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussion unfolded during a meeting involving the Department’s Director General, Dr. Sinan Jaafar Mohammed, and the regional manager of the Chinese company responsible for executing the project. The meeting also included the Director of Baghdad Environment and several specialists from the Environmental Impact Division.

The focus of the meeting was on identifying the environmental requirements crucial for the project’s different implementation phases. The participants also highlighted the technical measures necessary to mitigate potential environmental impacts while promoting efficient waste management and harnessing waste for energy production.

Dr. Jaafar underscored the Department’s integral role in overseeing and conducting technical assessments of environmentally impactful projects. He stressed the importance of meeting all environmental conditions before the project’s commencement and throughout its duration to minimize pollution sources and support sustainable waste management practices.
