Baghdad: The Ministry of Finance announced the completion of the implementation mechanism for the advance collection of customs duties.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Finance Minister, Faleh Sari, chaired a meeting dedicated to finalizing the implementation mechanism for Council of Ministers Resolution No. 413 of 2026, concerning the advance collection of customs duties. The meeting focused on the technical, financial, and organizational measures required to implement the resolution, along with the mechanisms for interconnection and integration among relevant entities. As a result, the advance collection mechanism was completed in accordance with the ASYCUDA system and approved electronic payment systems.

The Minister emphasized the importance of implementing the mechanism through clear procedures to enhance the governance of customs operations and ensure accurate collection of state dues, aiming to maximize non-oil revenues. The finalized implementation mechanism aligns with the Ministry’s directives to automate customs procedures, reduce evasion, accelerate transaction processing, and simplify procedures.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Nizar Nasser Hussein; the Director General of the General Commission for Customs, Thamer Qasim Dawood; the Director General of the Investment Department; the Deputy Director General of the General Commission for Taxes; and a representative from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
