Baghdad: During a conference at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, the Ministry of Higher Education announced the launch of the first guide for psychological counseling in universities. The Ministry emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance students’ mental health and provide structured pathways for managing and monitoring psychological cases.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Scientific Research Affairs, Haider Abdul Dhahd, delivered a speech on behalf of the Acting Minister of Education at the conference. The event, hosted under the slogan ‘Together We Build a Conscious and Safe Generation: Towards a Healthy Environment Free from Psychological Disorders and Addiction,’ was attended by academics, specialists, researchers, and mental health and addiction prevention experts. The guide aims to integrate educational and health institutions, working closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure that specialized psychiatrists are available to provide necessary care and support for students, adhering to approved standards.

The Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, Amin Abdul-Hassan Al-Alwani, highlighted the importance of mental health within the university environment. He noted that the presence of a new generation of psychiatrists in universities is crucial for offering specialized care and support to students, in collaboration with educational and health institutions.
