Baghdad: The Ministry of Justice discussed with the US Embassy in Baghdad mechanisms for strengthening joint cooperation regarding the cases of detained Americans. A statement from the Ministry of Justice said: "The Director General of the Department of Judicial Relations at the Ministry, Ahmed Laibi Abdul Hussein, met today, Thursday, with a delegation from the US Embassy, which included the Director of the American Citizen Services Section, Maggie Regala, and Legal Attach John Parrish."
According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening joint cooperation, particularly concerning the cases of detained Americans, and emphasizing the implementation of directives from Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani regarding the necessity of concluding memoranda of understanding with countries that have detainees in Iraq. The aim is to improve procedures for dealing with them and ensure their rights in accordance with established humanitarian and legal standards.
The American delegation expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Justice for its efforts in monitoring the conditions of detainees within correctional facilities. They commended the Department of Judicial Relations for facilitating cooperation and coordinating joint cases.
