Ministry of Labor Recovers 140 Billion Dinars from Social Protection Law Violators

Baghdad: The Ministry of Labor has announced the recovery of 140 billion dinars from individuals who violated social protection laws. The Social Protection Authority, part of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, revealed on Sunday that over 380,000 families were found to be improperly receiving benefits. This recovery effort has resulted in the retrieval of significant funds from these families.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Abdul Rahman al-Mansouri, Director General of the Social Protection Authority, stated that the verification process of beneficiary names is ongoing. The discovery of new cases continues, facilitated by networking, data cross-referencing, the electronic annual report, and updates to the ‘My Umbrella’ platform. As of May 4, 2026, more than 380,000 families have been identified as illegally receiving benefits.

Al-Mansouri explained that the total amount documented in the collection procedures is approximately 240 billion dinars. This is divided into about 140 billion dinars recovered in actual cash for the Social Protection Fund and about 180 billion dinars in installments, recorded in recovery databases. These installments are being collected electronically over periods that may extend up to ten years. He emphasized that the 180 billion dinars figure represents a documented debt scheduled for collection, rather than cash fully recovered at present.

He further clarified that the recovery of these funds is ensured under the Government Debt Collection Law, which involves official notification, payment, or installment plans with a guarantor who is an employee. Should there be any refusal, legal actions may be pursued, potentially leading to the seizure of salaries, funds, and assets until the debt is fully settled.
