Baghdad: The Ministry of Migration and Displacement stressed the importance of reintegrating returnees as a national, security, and social necessity, while urging international partners to continue their support, commitment, and solidarity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the official launch ceremony of the Reintegration Strategy and the Communication for Integration Strategy for Returning Iraqis, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Migration, Karim Al-Nouri, highlighted that these strategies are grounded in real challenges and an urgent need for a profound vision that centers people in government policies. Al-Nouri emphasized the human aspect of displaced persons, noting that the strategy treats returnees as individuals belonging to a homeland and deserving of dignity and inclusion.

He explained that the strategy goes beyond providing basic needs, addressing the intellectual, psychological, age, and emotional requirements of returnees. This comprehensive approach aims to restore trust and build bridges between individuals and their communities, as well as between citizens and the state. Al-Nouri also acknowledged the extensive efforts and international partnerships, particularly praising the United Nations Development Programme for its support in preparing and implementing integration and rehabilitation programs.

The official drew attention to major regional challenges, especially the impact of the situation in Syria and the return of individuals from Al-Hol camp, noting the complex environments these returnees have experienced. He also expressed concern over the decline in US funding, which has affected the continuation of essential programs. Al-Nouri called for continued international commitment and support, underscoring that the integration of returnees is essential for national security and social stability. He concluded by affirming that reintegrating individuals fortifies communities and contributes to civil peace.
