Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdel-Aty, on Wednesday to discuss the project to extend an oil pipeline from Iraq to the port of Aqaba, and from there to the Red Sea, to support economic cooperation and enhance energy transport and export routes.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement detailing the meeting, which took place on August 5, 2026, in Amman. The discussion occurred on the sidelines of the Arab Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem, and focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Egypt. The ministers explored ways to develop cooperation in various fields and emphasized the importance of continued exchanges of visits by officials and delegations from both countries to expand joint cooperation.

The Ministry noted that the discussion also covered joint projects involving Egyptian companies in Iraq, with particular emphasis on cooperation in the energy sector, especially electricity. The ministers shared views on regional developments and challenges, including the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the necessity of ensuring smooth maritime navigation.

The meeting highlighted the strategic significance of the oil pipeline project from Iraq to Aqaba, aiming to bolster economic ties and fortify energy transport and export routes. The ministers agreed on the need for ongoing coordination and communication, and expressed their commitment to intensifying high-level visits and exchanges to further strengthen Iraqi-Egyptian relations and broaden bilateral cooperation.
