Trabzonspor: Trabzonspor secured an important victory in the Turkish Super Lig, defeating Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 at the Babara Park Stadium on Sunday evening in the second round of the 2026-2027 season. The win was largely thanks to the brilliance of their Egyptian star, Mohamed Salah.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Salah opened the scoring for Trabzonspor in the eighth minute, capitalizing on a mistake by the Basaksehir goalkeeper who failed to handle a cross. The ball fell to Salah inside the penalty area, and his shot struck the post and crossed the goal line. Basaksehir’s defense cleared the ball, but the referee consulted VAR, confirming the goal and marking Salah’s first goal for his new club.

However, the home side’s lead was short-lived. Basaksehir equalized in the 20th minute through Eldor Shomurodov, who successfully converted a penalty kick, bringing the score level.

In the second half, Mohamed Salah regained control and scored Trabzonspor’s second goal after a well-organized exchange with teammate Mu§i, before unleashing a powerful shot from inside the penalty area that found the back of the net. The added time was full of drama, as Salah thought he had scored his third goal, but the referee disallowed it due to a foul earlier in the play.

Moments later, Salah scored another brilliant goal with a perfectly placed shot from midfield into the empty net after goalkeeper Sengezer had advanced during a corner kick, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Basaksehir players tried to equalize in the final minutes, but Trabzonspor’s defense held firm until the final whistle, securing three valuable points.

Salah then celebrated with the fans after the match. Trabzonspor will travel to Ferencv¡ros for the second leg of their Europa League playoff tie next Thursday. With this victory, Trabzonspor raised their points tally to 4, placing them third in the Turkish league standings, while Basaksehir’s points remained at 3, leaving them in eighth place.
