Baghdad:The Federal Commission of Integrity announced that a judgment has been issued in absentia, sentencing Member of Parliament Ashwaq Salim Hassan to seven years in prison for the crime of illicit enrichment. The ruling requires her to return the value of the illicitly gained assets and pay a fine equivalent to that amount, totaling 11,949,264,000 Iraqi dinars.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued the judgment under Article 19 (Second) of the Integrity Commission and Illicit Enrichment Law No. 30 of 2011 (as amended). MP Ashwaq Salim Hassan is required to return the illicit enrichment’s value of 2,114,820,000 Iraqi dinars and 2,924,100 US dollars, in addition to paying a fine equal to the value of the illicit enrichment under Article 19(Fourth) of the law.

Furthermore, the court imposed an additional three-year sentence of rigorous imprisonment for concealing information in her financial disclosure form, in accordance with Article (19/Fifth) of the Commission’s Law. The maximum penalty was applied, and her movable and immovable assets remain seized. The Federal Commission of Integrity is entitled to claim compensation for damages once the ruling is finalized.
