Baghdad: Disciplinary action has been taken against MP Mustafa Jabbar Sand following a brawl during a closed parliamentary session. He has been barred from attending parliamentary sessions until he issues a formal apology.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Speaker of Parliament issued an order prohibiting Mustafa Jabbar Sand from participating in parliamentary activities and entering the parliament building. The order requires him to apologize to both the Speaker and MP Bahaa al-Araji, the head of the Reconstruction and Development Bloc, who was involved in the altercation. The incident escalated to physical violence, including an exchange of slaps.

The Speaker's decision to bar Sand and refer him to the Parliamentary Ethics Committee was based on the powers granted by Article 62, Paragraph 2 of the Law of the Council of Representatives and its Formations No. 13 of 2018, and Article 140 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of Representatives. These provisions allow for disciplinary action in cases of serious violations of parliamentary conduct rules.
