Baghdad: The MP of the Sadiqoun bloc, Zahra Al Bajari, warned of the grave dangers posed by the remnants of the terrorist organization ISIS in Al Hol camp, stressing that “the continuation of the current situation without radical solutions constitutes a time bomb that could explode at any moment, posing a direct threat to the security of Iraq and the region.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al Bajari pointed to what was mentioned in an interview with the wife of the “Wali of ISIS in Syria and Iraq,” which revealed the continued communication between sleeper cells and the organization’s leaders.

She emphasized that “Al Hol camp is turning into a renewed hotbed of threat,” especially with the presence of thousands of families ideologically affiliated with the organization. This requires an urgent international action to dismantle it and resettle the displaced in a way that prevents it from being exploited as a platform for reviving terrorism.

Al Bajari also called on the government and the United Nations to assume responsibility by strengthening security measures around the camp to prevent the infiltration of dangerous elements, hold accountable the corrupt individuals involved in terrorist smuggling operations, and work to close it. This issue is being addressed regionally and internationally through sustainable solutions ensures the organization’s non-emergence.

It’s worth noting that Al Hol camp houses tens of thousands of displaced persons, including families of ISIS fighters, and has been repeatedly warned by international organizations that it has become a “fertile environment” for terrorist recruitment.
