MPs of the Christian component call for peaceful coexistence away from hatred and discrimination

Baghdad, Representatives of the Christian component criticized the disgraceful act of burning a copy of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden, calling on the Iraqi people to peaceful coexistence away from hatred and discrimination.

MP, Farouk Hanna said, in a joint press conference today, Saturday, that “the act carried out by an extremist Swedish citizen by burning a copy of the Holy Qur’an in front of the Turkish embassy is a disgraceful act that is far from human morals and values and hurts the feelings of Muslims and non-Muslims.”

He added, “Such cheap actions do not represent the teachings of Christ and do not represent the morals and behavior of Christians, especially Christians in the East, because these actions belong to extremist individuals and groups who carry them out for political gain aimed at spreading hate speech and discrimination and threatening the social peace of peoples,” stressing, “We are in urgent need to promote the discourse of coexistence and analyze the culture of diversity in order to combat extremist ideas and hate speech.”
