Baghdad: The leader of the Shiite National Movement, Mr. Muqtada al-Sadr, affirmed today that Christians and Muslims believe that divine systems came for the sake of reform, peace, justice, and dignity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mr. Sadr expressed this sentiment in a post on the (X) platform, where he extended his congratulations to all Iraqi people, with a special mention to the Christian community, as they approach a new year. He emphasized the shared belief in divine systems, highlighting the peaceful coexistence of Christians and other religious groups within Iraq.

In his message, Mr. Sadr reiterated his long-held belief that Iraq is a nation for all religions, with each community entitled to their rights and duties. He acknowledged the harmonious relationship that has historically existed between Christians and other groups in Iraq, guided by both divine and legal systems. This coexistence, he argued, mandates mutual respect and treatment.

Mr. Sadr also addressed concerns about particular behaviors that do not reflect the values of the broader community. He noted that actions such as calls for normalization, support for LGBTQ+ rights, or backing corruption do not represent the Christian community, just as they do not represent other communities. He concluded by reaffirming the shared conviction that the divine teachings of Jesus and Muhammad were intended to promote reform, peace, justice, and dignity.
