Najaf: Imam and Friday Prayer Preacher of Najaf, Sadr al-Din al-Qabanji, emphasized the importance of participating in the upcoming elections as a means to support religion and the country. He stated, “Elections are the path to reform and preserving this Iraqi experience,” during his political sermon delivered today in Najaf. Al-Qabanji reiterated his call for active electoral participation to bolster religion, homeland, and sect.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Qabanji addressed the current political climate, noting that the Iraqi arena is currently heated with the approaching parliamentary elections and the onset of the election campaign. He highlighted how the electoral battle has shifted from a political struggle to a sectarian one, based on certain statements. He emphasized that participating in the elections is the safest route to reform and maintaining the Iraqi experience, as well as supporting religion, homeland, and sect. Al-Qabanji urged voters to choose candidates they believe are best for religion and the country.
He also touched upon educational reforms, expressing approval of including Ba’ath regime crimes in the preparatory curriculum. This move, he said, would help the new generation understand the past struggles under the former regime.
In addition, Al-Qabanji discussed the outcome of the Doha Conference, expressing disappointment that it only resulted in condemnations. He called for an economic boycott of Israeli goods, alongside a ban on trade and tourism with Israel, emphasizing that these measures are within their control.
Al-Qabanji concluded by addressing the murder of Sheikh Al-Qarghouli in Baghdad, urging authorities to investigate the case thoroughly, prosecute the perpetrators, and label them as unlicensed groups.
