Beijing: Najla Imad, a student at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Diyala, achieved an outstanding accomplishment by winning second place at the Asian Table Tennis Championship held in China, adding a new milestone to Iraqi university sports. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Marwa Khalid Jihad, Director of the College's Media Department, reported that Najla delivered an exceptional performance throughout the tournament. She topped her group after defeating players from India, Thailand, and Korea, and advanced to the final by overcoming a competitor from Hong Kong. Despite suffering a sudden health issue that affected her performance in the final match, she showed great determination and resilience, securing the silver medal and second place. Jihad emphasized that this achievement supports the fourth Sustainable Development Goal, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. This is achieved by integrating sports into the educational process and instilling values such as perseverance and teamwork among students. For his part, the Dean of the College, Uday Abdul Hussein Karim, praised Najla's remarkable efforts in achieving this international sporting success. He reaffirmed the College's commitment to supporting and nurturing student athletic talent, enhancing its position as a leading academic sports institution in Iraq.
