Baghdad: The Iraqi National Security Service's Nineveh Security Directorate has successfully apprehended a suspect responsible for a significant cyberattack that disrupted internet services for approximately 6,000 users. This decisive action is part of the ongoing efforts by the Service to safeguard the nation's cyberspace and counteract rising cybercrime activities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the arrest was made possible through precise intelligence gathering, followed by specialized technical procedures executed by the Service's units. The electronic investigation culminated in identifying the individual behind the cyberattack, which aimed to create unrest in Mosul and extort internet users, thereby threatening social harmony. The rapid and coordinated response by the National Security Service effectively thwarted the suspect's plans, ensuring the continued stability of the region.

The operation was conducted under a judicial mandate as per Article (362) of the Penal Code, with oversight from the President of the Nineveh Court of Appeals. A tactical team from the Nineveh Security Directorate executed the security operation, which led to the arrest of the accused. The suspect has been handed over to judicial authorities to proceed with the necessary legal actions.
