National Security in Nineveh Warns of Suspicious Cyber Activity Hacked the Accounts of Officials and Public Figures

Mosul: The National Security Directorate in Nineveh Governorate warned of suspicious online activity targeting the WhatsApp accounts of several officials, members of parliament, and public figures in Mosul. The directorate confirmed that attempts at financial fraud using these hacked accounts had been recorded.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the directorate stated that “Unknown entities have hacked WhatsApp accounts belonging to officials, prominent figures, and members of parliament, and have been contacting citizens requesting money or sending bank account numbers and financial balances under various pretexts.”

The statement clarified that “these operations are being managed from outside Iraq,” urging Mosul residents not to interact with any unknown links or financial requests received through social media applications, even if they appear to originate from known accounts.

The directorate confirmed that it is working to monitor the situation technically and is making every effort to recover the hacked accounts and take legal action against those involved in these fraudulent activities.
