Baghdad: The National Security Service announced today, Monday, the arrest of counterfeit currency dealers and unmarked gold traders in the governorates of Baghdad, Dhi Qar, and Qadisiyah.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Service’s media revealed that in Baghdad, two suspects were arrested in the municipalities area for promoting counterfeit local and foreign currencies. Authorities seized 3,400 counterfeit dollars in 100 dollar bills from the suspects, along with various amounts of counterfeit Iraqi dinars.

The statement detailed further operations in Dhi Qar, where an illegal commercial complex was raided. The complex was involved in selling unmarked gold, and its owner was found offering usurious loans to citizens in exchange for seizing Key Cards and MasterCards. Officials confiscated 122 cards, gold coins, four seals, customer records, electronic devices, and an amount of 12 million and 750 thousand dinars during the raid.

In Qadisiyah, the National Security detachments successfully dismantled a gang specialized in promoting counterfeit currency. An ambush was set up for one of the gang members, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, a man and a woman, caught in the act of exchanging counterfeit money. They were found in possession of 215 thousand counterfeit dollars and the vehicle they were using.

The statement concluded that all suspects, along with the seized items, were handed over to the competent authorities to complete legal procedures.
