Baghdad: The National Security Service announced the arrest of suspects exploiting the Service’s name to defraud citizens.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Service stated, “As part of its efforts to protect the Service’s reputation and combat the exploitation of its name in fraudulent operations, National Security Service detachments in Diwaniyah and Diyala were able to dismantle two networks comprising three suspects who were impersonating false identities and exploiting the Service’s name to deceive citizens into believing they could secure appointments in exchange for sums of money.”

The statement continued, “Based on accurate intelligence information collected by the Service’s personnel, and after monitoring the suspects’ suspicious movements and verifying their fraudulent activities, simultaneous operations were planned in the two governorates. Following judicial orders, tight ambushes were set up, resulting in the arrest of the suspects in the act in Diwaniyah.” It added, “In Diyala, another suspect was arrested who had been deceiving citizens with his ability to appoint them to the National Security Service in exchange for sums of money. He was caught red-handed receiving a sum of money from a citizen in exchange for false promises of employment.”

The statement indicated that the defendants’ statements were duly recorded and they were referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the investigative and legal procedures against them.

The National Security Service calls on citizens to immediately report any similar cases through the service’s official communication channels.
