Vienna: The National Youth Orchestra – Dubai has achieved a significant milestone by performing in some of Vienna’s most esteemed theaters and halls, marking a first for an orchestra from the Emirates. Dubai Culture and Arts Authority ‘Dubai Culture’ celebrated the orchestra’s performances at venues including the ‘Wiener Konsthaus’, the ‘Musikverein’ (Golden Hall), and the ‘Radio Kulturhaus’ of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the orchestra’s tour was organized with the support of Dubai Culture and the Dubai Culture Grant. The National Youth Orchestra – Dubai and its String Orchestra participated in the 18th edition of the Soma Com Laude International Youth Music Festival. The highlight of their performance was the world premiere of “Threads of Light,” composed by Emirati artist Ehab Darwish, which was featured at the festival’s opening ceremony. This composition underscores music’s power to convey local creativity and express the Emirati identity in a universal language.

Another notable achievement for the orchestra’s String Orchestra, led by Maestros Jonathan Barrett and Eva Grasbeck, was securing third place with the “Distinction” award in the festival’s main international competition. The competition featured youth orchestras from around the globe and was judged by an international jury at the Musikverein (Golden Hall).

The orchestra members also engaged in training sessions and workshops with Maestro Sol Sachs and Maestro Alexandre Grandi, enhancing their skills and fostering connections with international musicians. This initiative aligns with Dubai Culture’s mission to nurture and empower emerging talents.

Additionally, the orchestra’s visit to Vienna included a cultural and educational program, allowing them to explore the city’s rich artistic heritage. Their itinerary featured visits to the House of Music and the Museum of Art History, offering insights into the lives and legacies of renowned composers and historical musical instruments.
