Nechirvan Barzani congratulates on the occasion Akitu: The Kurdistan region will remain a home for all

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, stressed the importance of protecting rights and freedoms and consolidating a culture of coexistence, acceptance of the other, and tolerance among all the religious and national components of Kurdistan.

He said in a statement today, Saturday, on the occasion of the Assyrian-Babylonian New Year, the Akitu holiday, “On the occasion of the Assyrian-Babylonian New Year and the Akitu holiday, I extend my warmest congratulations to the Chaldean, Assyrian and Syriac sisters and brothers in the Kurdistan region, Iraq and all parts of the world, I wish them all success and a happy and safe holiday.”

He added: On this occasion, we renew our emphasis on protecting equality, rights and freedoms, and consolidating the culture of coexistence, acceptance of the other, and tolerance among all the religious and national components of Kurdistan, and we reassure our Christian sisters and brothers and all components that the Kurdistan region will remain a homeland for all as it always is.

It is noteworthy that Akitu, or the Assyrian-Babylonian New Year, is the oldest holiday in human history, and it is celebrated to this day at the beginning of April every year, and as a tradition, festivals and activities are held annually.
