Erbil: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed the decision of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to dissolve itself, lay down its arms, and heed Ocalan’s call.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani said in a statement: “The PKK’s decision is a fateful step that opens a new page in the region.” He added: “The decision reflects political maturity and paves the way for a genuine dialogue,” noting that ‘it is time for this important step to be met with positive steps.’ He emphasized: “The PKK’s decision creates a suitable ground and lays the foundation for lasting peace. This step ends decades of violence and suffering and leads the region toward new horizons of progress.”

He stressed: “The Kurdistan Region supports all efforts to resolve differences through peaceful means, and we hope that this initiative will be a decisive turning point. We are fully prepared to continue providing any assistance and support to ensure the success of this historic opportunity.”
